Biography

Rachel is currently a freelance singer, educator and animator. Future projects include being in the chorus of Glyndebourne’s next Youth and Community Opera, ‘Imago’, concerts with the Brighton Early Music Festival (BREMF) Consort of Voices and Celestial Sirens as well as being an Associate Artist for the Glyndebourne Education Department.

Recent performances have included being in the Chorus for New Sussex Opera’s production of Puccini’s ‘Edgar’, BREMF 2012, 2nd Fairy, King Arthur and Chorus in New Sussex Opera’s ‘Pleasures of Purcell’ concert and notably, Spem in Allium with the BREMF Consort of Voices.

Previous projects she has worked on include Glyndebourne’s Youth Opera ‘Knight Crew’ as featured on the BBC’s series ‘Gareth Malone Goes to Glyndebourne’, the Transition Town’s Concert at Glyndebourne, the Hallé Harmony Youth Orchestra as featured on Channel 4’s series ‘Orchestra United’ and Opera North’s Opus 1 project.

Rachel has conducted the BREMF Community Choir, Sale Children’s Community Choir for Sing Up, has run a series of African music workshops and has worked as a vocal coach and stage manager for Leeds Lieder+ Festival 2007.

Rachel has a ‘Musicians in Education’ PGCE from the University of Greenwich and Trinity College of Music. She also has a BA (Hons) in Music Studies from Leeds College of Music, where she studied singing with Mary Plazas. Rachel currently enjoys studying singing with Penny Jenkins and has developed a wide range of repertoire with the various groups that she sings with, which has enabled her to become a diverse and adaptable singer during her time with them.

For several years Rachel had the pleasure of singing with the Hallé Youth Choir and the Hallé Choir under the direction of James Burton. She has helped to create parts in newly-commissioned operas in Leeds and has sung the role of Second Lady in the Leeds College of Music’s production of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’.
